Canada Express Entry and PR explained (for Punjab applicants)

Quick answer. Express Entry is Canada's online system for managing skilled-worker permanent-residence applications across three programs (Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades). You create a profile, get a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on age, education, language and work experience, and the highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply for PR in regular draws.

How it works

You submit an Express Entry profile and are ranked by your CRS score. IRCC holds draws and issues Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates above a cut-off. If invited, you submit a full PR application with documents (language test, education assessment, proof of funds, police and medical checks). A job offer, a provincial nomination, or strong language scores can raise your CRS.

What raises your CRS score

Younger age, higher education (with an Educational Credential Assessment for foreign degrees), strong IELTS/CELPIP language scores, skilled work experience, and — significantly — a Provincial Nominee Program nomination or an eligible job offer. Improving your language score is often the fastest lever for Punjab applicants.

A note on advice

Only a CICC-licensed Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC), or a lawyer, can be paid to represent you to IRCC. In Punjab, an agent arranging this should also hold the state Travel Act licence — verify both. No one can guarantee a PR outcome.

Do I need a job offer for Express Entry?
